Best rides at Animal Kingdom for adults

Expedition Everest roller coaster at Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom is a beautiful and massive theme park full of animals and nature. But despite being the largest theme park in Disney World, it has the fewest rides. Fortunately, most are great for adults. Plus, there are other experiences besides rides to fill your day, including shows, shopping, street music and Nomad Lounge.

To start planning your park visit, see the list below of the best Animal Kingdom rides for adults that are currently open. Note that Animal Kingdom’s DinoLand U.S.A. is currently being converted into a new land with Encanto/tropical theming, which is set to open in 2027.

Tip: Animal Kingdom usually closes early, so consider checking out one of Disney’s nightlife activities after your park day. Having dinner at one of the signature restaurants on Disney property, park hopping or relaxing at your resort are other great options.

Flight of Passage

If you’ve ever wished you could fly through the air, Avatar Flight of Passage is for you. It’s a 3D interactive ride that simulates flying on the back of a banshee. If you’re prone to motion sickness, be sure to take medication before getting on the ride… it’s worth it! Lines also tend to be long for this ride, so we recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before early park entry (you must stay at a qualifying hotel) or getting in line right before the park closes.

Expedition Everest

Expedition Everest is the powerful roller coaster in Animal Kingdom. It goes forward, backwards and through the dark in the “Himalayas”, reaching speeds of almost 50 mph. It’s definitely not a kiddie ride. If you’re visiting the park solo or don’t mind splitting up your group, there is a single rider line (which greatly reduces wait times). You can also ask to be seated in the front of the coaster for a smoother experience.

Kali River Rapids

Like Expedition Everest, you’ll find Kali River Rapids in the Asia section of Animal Kingdom. It’s a jungle raft ride that’s relaxing, thrilling and wet. You’ll ultimately drop 20ft at the end of the ride with various other small drops and rapids along the way. It is fantastic on hot days if you want to cool off, but pass in the winter months on chilly days. To stay dry, you can wear a poncho or rain jacket, and we highly recommend wearing sandals (like Sketchers, Tevas) to avoid wet socks.

Kilimanjaro Safaris

Kilimanjaro Safaris is a family-friendly ride, but if you love animals, definitely add this experience to your list. Giraffes, zebras, elephants, rhinos and lions are some of the many animals you might see. Get in line before 10 a.m. or around sunset when the animals are more active. Note that in the summer months, the park may close before sunset, so plan accordingly. Also, the ride can be bumpy at times and may not be comfortable if you have a neck or back injury.
