Disney World in April: Ultimate Trip Planning Guide

EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival in April

April is one of the best months to visit Disney World as long as you strategically avoid the crowds. The weather is usually perfect so it’s worth the effort to plan carefully. Here’s everything you need to know about visiting Disney World in April, including events, weather and tips for making the most of your trip.

April Events & Holidays

Easter is the big holiday in April that impacts crowd levels (but it can also occur in March). There’s an influx of international crowds due to Easter breaks in other countries. Other events in April to avoid: RunDisney weekend and Cheerleading World Championships.

In terms of events worth planning a trip around, EPCOT’s Flower and Garden Festival takes place during the entire month of April. Be sure to check the concert schedule to see if there is a band or artist you want to see. Additionally, Animal Kingdom celebrates its opening day anniversary on Earth Day.

2025 Event Dates

  • International Flower & Garden Festival (March 5 – June 2, 2025)
  • RunDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend (April 3-6, 2025)
  • Easter (April 20, 2025)
  • Earth Day (April 22, 2025)
  • Cheerleading World Championship (April 25-28, 2025)

Crowds

Spring break for U.S. students is ongoing in April, primarily during the first two weeks of the month. Crowds can be heavy at this time and in the days before and after Easter. If you can avoid going to Disney World during these weeks and during the other events listed above, an April trip can be lovely.

April Weather

Disney World in April is mostly sunny days, highs in the 80s and lows in the 60s. It can be cool in the evenings, but only cool in the sense you’ll want pants, long-sleeves or a light jacket. Otherwise, it’s great weather for lounging at the pool and visiting the theme parks.

Tip: In 2025, if you stay at an official Walt Disney World hotel or villa, you can go to a Disney water park for free on your arrival day.

What to Wear

Pack your summer clothes when visiting Disney World in April. Tank tops, short-sleeve shirts, shorts, skirts and sun dresses. As mentioned above, there can be evenings where you’ll want a light jacket, pants or long sleeves, so bring these items just in case.

Like all months of the year, you’ll also want to have a hat and at least two pairs of comfortable walking shoes. We recommend that one of these pairs be hiking/sport/walking sandals. Brands to look for include Teva, Chaco, Keen and Sketchers. It’s good to wear these sandals on a rainy day or if you plan to get on a ride where you might get wet (Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Kali River Rapids).

Planning Tips

  • Plan your trip in the second half of the month and check dates for Easter, RunDisney and the Cheerleading Championships (and avoid a trip during these times).
  • If hotel, flight and theme park prices seem high or higher than other dates in April, it’s a good indication that it will be a busy time at Disney World. Choose other dates.
  • Regular park tickets and park hoppers are fine in April, but the After Hours events do shorten wait times for rides.
  • Because of the pleasant weather, choose any resort or hotel that works best for you. (In other months, you’ll need to factor in rain, hot weather and cold weather).
  • Stay at a deluxe resort (including at the Swan or Dolphin) for extended evening hours in the theme parks.
  • Consider visiting Animal Kingdom in April to celebrate its opening day anniversary.
